Company delivers $20,000 worth of donated supplies to Weymouth schools

WEYMOUTH — Nailman Construction of Rockland delivered about $20,000 worth of donated school supplies to the Weymouth district Tuesday as part of a campaign to encourage business owners to chip in during a tight budgetary time for the school system.

The supplies, which several fifth-graders helped unload, included 30 cases of copy paper, colored paper, pens and pencils, crayons, colored markers, glue, notebooks, flash cards and maps.

“I put a challenge out to all other individuals and businesses to do, not a lot, but just a little,” said Philip Wood, co-owner of Nailman and a graduate of Weymouth schools. “If we have a whole bunch of people give us little nibbles, then all of a sudden some big things have been taken care of.”

The schools’ supply budget has been cut steadily over the last two years.

The school department is looking to recruit what it’s calling “school-community partners” like Wood to bolster its finances.
